But he knows, apparently innately, how to set up a welcoming space, where I was able to be vulnerable—and he helped me create a delicious fragrance unlike anything I’ve worn before. We know scent is closely tied to memory, and on that Marfa afternoon, we made a mixture that, in my mind, will always be associated with speaking freely and knowing deep down what I want.
